It’s been a long 8-week break in between rounds… it’s been killing me! I am so keen to get back behind the wheel for the fourth round of the Porsche Michelin GT3 Cup Challenge this weekend at Ipswich.
I feel better prepared than ever, I’ve had lots of time to get stuck into my training, as well as lots of simulator work – so I’m feeling really confident heading into this round.
I’ve been to Queensland Raceway last year in the Formula Ford and had good results, so hopefully I can continue that for this weekend. A lot of people don’t like this track and say it’s quite boring, but I really like it. There’s a lot more to it than people realize, it’s all about exits and high speed corners, so you’ve got to really maximize your lap to be fast.
This weekend will also see a 60-minute session for race 1, which I’m really looking forward to. It’ll be all about strategy and conserving of the tyres as the degradation is high on the rears, so it’ll certainly be interesting to see who has the best strategy game as well as a bit of the old, survival of the fittest!
I’m currently still in the lead in the Championship points and I won’t be approaching this round any differently to how I have any other. Although I’ll be somewhat conservative, I’ll still be pushing hard and when it comes to making moves and pushing that little bit more during the race – I’ll certainly be mindful not to take any unnecessary risks!
We hit the track for the first practice session on Friday 27th July at 12:10pm.
