It was a bit of a whirlwind weekend at Sandown Raceway, but it was nice to have claimed a round win on Sunday after Saturday’s horrid race.
Friday was extremely wet and slippery and I came away with first in Practice 1 and second in Practice 2. It was awesome fun to be racing out in the wet, I enjoy racing with the back end sliding a little – it gives for interesting racing and also requires a lot of concentration!
On Saturday, I qualified the Porsche on the front row for Race 1, but unfortunately I couldn’t maintain the position after battling it out with Max (Vidau) for lead position and making contact with his car. The contact then forced me to nurse my GT3 Cup back to the pits with a punctured tyre. I was able to return to the field, however manage to only claim 7th.
After a disappointing Race 1, I was eager to get back out for Race 2 on Sunday, with an aim to get back on the podium. Unfortunately we had 2 safety cars for the race, meaning we were only able to cut a few laps under green. I managed to snatch a few spots though and claim third position!
Race 3 on Sunday I was hoping for some better luck and thankfully after chasing down Simon (Fallon), I was able to claim the top step of the Sandown podium – also bagging a round win.
I am now leading the Championship by 9 points – which I hope to maintain!
A huge thanks to the crew at Ashley Seward Motorsport for again providing me with an ace car all weekend and of course a big thank you to my sponsors and fans for your on going support too!
I’ll be back in the Porsche GT3 Cup at Phillip Island, June 1 – 3 2018.
